The Active Faculty parties
The Active parties

In 2020, Front set up the Active parties that now also participate in the faculty council at a decentralized level. Why?
To work for a policy that is as uniform as possible across all faculties, so that all students at Tilburg University have the same rights. Moreover, Front sees a lot of added value in the optimal interaction of information flows that will take place between the decentralized and central party(ies). By taking this step, Front can better represent your interests as an active student!
The faculty councils in which Active is active
The Active parties are active on the boards of TSB, TiSEM, TLS and TSHD. There is no Active party active in the council of TST, as this faculty has not yet had a student party and because the central faction of Front is also invited to sit here at the table._cc781905-5cde-3194-bb3b- 136bad5cf58d_
Goal of the initiative: uniform policy with optimal interaction
With its initiative, Front aims to achieve a more uniform policy on faculties, with optimal interaction between central and decentralized levels. Firstly, the starting point is to create a more uniform policy on faculties, because differences have arisen between the various faculties in recent years. The individual parties per faculty each have their own vision, which also changes every year with the arrival of new council members. As a result, students from different faculties do not have the same rights, which Front sees as an obstacle for the student. In the past, the TiSEM Faculty Council decided against introducing the third chance scheme, making this faculty the only faculty without such an opportunity. In Front's opinion, such large differences are undesirable and therefore inadmissible. Through its initiative, Front hopes to equalize the rights of students across different faculties, and to monitor this in the future.
With regard to the implementation of central policy at the decentralized level, the policy at the central level is established with the approval of the University Council, after which it ends up with the faculty councils. In the faculty councils, Front has no formal say in the further implementation and implementation of this policy at the decentralized level. Front only has an informative role about the central policy and the underlying idea towards current parties from the faculty councils. Front expects that this knowledge and background information can be optimally included by the decentralized Active parties in decision-making, so that decisions at a decentralized level are better aligned with the underlying interests of the central policy.
Secondly, Front expects an optimal interaction between central and decentralized level with the establishment of the Active parties. The group members of the University Council can on the one hand support decentralized group members with their knowledge about central documents and developments, while on the other hand the decentralized group members can communicate student interests and developments per faculty to a central level.
Motivating effect of competition
Besides the fact that participation ensures a more uniform policy across faculties and an improved exchange of information between the central and decentralized levels and between the faculties themselves, Front expects that competition at the local level will ensure a sharp and proactive attitude from all parties involved. This was also the aim of Front's arrival as the second party in the university council in 2006. Recent years have shown that the arrival of a multi-party system at a central level has resulted in a strong improvement in the quality of employee participation._cc781905-5cde-3194-bb3b -136bad5cf58d_
The active student vision on decentralized policy
Since its foundation in 2006, Front has been committed to a campus where students feel at home and can develop optimally on both an academic and personal level. Front has been committed to the active student for years. Front does this on the basis of the following three pillars: Digitization, Internationalization and the Living Campus. Front takes steps every year to create a climate in which the active student can develop optimally and every student can become an active student. In view of the increasing demand from employers for students with an extensive curriculum vitae, Front also wants to commit itself next year at a decentralized level to create optimal development opportunities for students based on its vision.
Recent years have shown that the relevance of the pillars of Front has steadily increased: digitization, for example, offers great opportunities for improving the quality and flexibility of education. Given the great independence of the faculties at Tilburg University, it is difficult to influence this through central policy, which means that there are many opportunities at the faculty level. This could include a Learning Analytics pilot that is currently only being run on TiSEM. In addition, Front sees the potential under the digitization pillar to improve information provision at the faculty level. The number of international students will also continue to increase in absolute and relative terms in the coming years. Through optimal cooperation with the Active parties, this pillar can be directly represented here together.
This step of Front also coincides with the further (decentralized) implementation of the Tilburg Education Profile, in which the core concepts of knowledge, skills and character are central, and in which Front likes to think along according to its vision. In short, Front believes it is important that the interests of its supporters are also represented at the faculty level, so that it can better represent its pillars and put them into practice. This so that students get even more in return for their vote!
Key lock
The arrival of the Active parties in the faculty councils from the 2020-2021 academic year is aimed at achieving a more uniform policy between faculties and an optimal interaction of information flows between the central and decentralized levels, in line with Front's vision. All this to give the active student more in return for his or her voice and to create a campus where the student feels at home and can develop optimally on both an academic and personal level!
