In February 2006, three progressive students decided to set up a new student fraction. “There was nothing for students to choose from, because there was only one fraction”. Kristian van Bockel, Christiaan Westgeest and Didier Deurloo wanted to change that. They formulated seven objectives that led to the creation of the Student Party Front:

Creating competition between student fractions in the University Council

Bringing participation more to the attention of the student population

Assessment of fraction performance by the student population

A better university debate

More initiatives directly for the benefit of the student

Shifting the focus of the political groups from the University Council to the workplace

Internal efficiency gains for the fractions
